Konica EU-mini, simple but limiting

The Konica EU-Mini is a small and attractive compact point-n-shoot camera

It has a wide angle lens of  28mm and probably a fixed aperture of f8 (?) Film speed is recognised automaticaly (100-400 ASA), so perhaps there are 2 or 3 shutter speeds (1/60-1/180s?). Film is also advanced automatically.

It seems like an easy to use camera, but after the film test I found out that many shots were blurred due to camera movement and the frame edges are very soft. So it is a camera that needs extra care when taking photos in the shadows and the quality of the lens is not great.

Here are some samples:

Canon Demi S, small and capable

The Demi S is a small half frame camera made by Canon. It has a 30mm lens (about 50mm for normal 35mm cameras) with a fast 1.7 aperture. There is a coupled selenium meter that allows the user to turn the aperture/speed rings to match the exposure needle. Focusing is made by guessing the distance to subject.

The camera takes sharp small pictures, 72 exposures can be made on a 135 film.

Kodak Brownie Six-20, a capable box camera

The Kodak Brownie Six-20 is a box camera that unlike most box cameras has some more settings.

There is only one shutter speed (I)nstant + (B)ulb, like most of the box cameras, but also has a lever to select apertures f11,16 and 22 and another lever to select subject distances; this lever actually puts a small lens over the camera's main lens.

The camera uses only 620 film. 620 film is 120 film rolled in slimmer 620 reels.
I used an 120 film that had its reel edges trimmed off  to a smaller diameter with a nail cutter. The take up spool though needs to be a genuine 620 spool for the film to advance.

I used an 160 Kodak Portra film. The format of the film is 6x9cm. Labs don't have such a big mask to scan the film so I rephotographed the negatives. Here are the results:

Wreck. Main lens, shutter dial at I, f16
Boat detail. Group add-on lens, shutter dial at I, f16
Swan. Portrait attachement lens, shutter dial at I, f22
Girl. Portrait add-on lens, shutter dial at I, f11

Square scene. Two exposures, main lens, shutter dial at I, f16
Shop arcade. Main lens, shutter dial at B (3 seconds I guess) and f11
